I didn't realize that this was published by a Scottish publisher and everything in this atlas is based on European measurements and wording. Print is exceptionally small and even with a magnifying glass, difficult to read. Some of writing is written under border markings of various countries. Larger countries and continents are cut in portions to fit pages, which I can appreciate because measurement of atlas is only 12.5 inch long by 9.25 in wide. Yet smaller countries/islands are kept reduced in size. Would prefer larger book with more pages and improved content.

Collins World Atlas Reference Edition Collins Maps 9780008102074 Books Reviews

Up to date and very easy to use. Bought for elderly lady who wanted to see where places in current events are located! Great ease of use!
I wanted something that I could have with me at all times in my travels and that I could consult with no Wi-Fi or Off-Line.

This little thing does that job perfectly. It fits in my carryon and takes very little space. It is well bound and rugged with quality paper. It is quite thorough and complete.

With that comes the price of the very small print. It really is quite hard to read and this is with my glasses. I am able to get a quick idea of what is on the page in terms of countries, states, provinces etc., and I may also locate the capitals quickly, but the rest requires concentrated effort and even has me wishing for a magnifying glass at times when I am in low light.
I had a large, heavy world atlas but when we cut back and moved into an Apt. I rid myself of it (and many other books). Lately I wished I still had one, and as a result ordered this 65 pg. light-weight paperback. I suspected that the print would be small and I was right. However even at my old age (with glasses) I can read it. And if my eyes get tired I have a wonderful, lighted magnifying glass that makes it easy.

It is mainly a matter of my wanting to look up something geographical every now and then. For that, this atlas for the price and size works well.

Some might ask, "Why bother with an atlas when (I) have a computer?" Response I remain wedded to the use of print and paper books. I find them easier and more satisfying to use. Reading via a computer monitor REALLY tires my eyes; and I can find what I want much faster in a book than I can with a computer.
What a ridiculous atlas. The organization doesn't make any sense- some countries are repeated an unnecessary amount of pages, while other whole sections of the world don't even get a page. The organization doesn't make any sense, and it is very difficult to envision and memorize when broken up like this. Northern Africa is several pages in front of southern Africa, with random countries from South America in between. No close up of Central America and most Pacific Island nations. I wish I had gotten another one.
I paired this with a Rand McNally Signature Map of the World for some serious study of geography. I wanted this book to drag around with me while I wait at the doctors, or just want to sit and brush up. Has everything you need to know and all those smaller details like the lesser seas, peninsulas, islands, straights, channels, mountains, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, gulfs... just everything you want to be up on. This would be great for anyone who just wants to be smarter about the World we live in. It's a great learning tool and every house with children should have at least one copy. Seriously, educate yourselves and your children. I like to show my grandchildren where places are that are in the news, or just point out something I find interesting. It's like having a huge wall map in a book form. Everything is covered and I'm thrilled with it. Hate to get maps that are too generalized and don't name the seas and so forth and don't go into finer detail. The only thing I didn't see was the Sargasso Sea... but that's not a showstopper as everything else is on there! You will definitely get smarter than a Fifth Grader with this book...
Almost useless as a classroom resource - bought for 6th grade Social Studies classes. I have been looking for a book of JUST good, clean maps - physical maps and basic political maps. This book has a lot of maps, overall maps, regional close up maps - BUT the maps are covered with roads, roads, roads, roads, and more freaking roads. On some of the maps there are so many roads it makes the rest of the map virtually unreadable. WHY has it become so difficult to find a good book of BASIC maps???
This Atlas covers all the countries but in not as much detail as I would have liked but it will do. For instance the Central American countries
are all lumped into only one map and therefore the detail of each country is non-existant because the display is so small. If you were
looking for some detail on one of the islands off the coast of South America they probably wouldn't show of show up as a dot instead of showing
the country of which it is located and some detail on that island. However, if you just want to know where a country is situated then this Atlas
is fine.
I didn't realize that this was published by a Scottish publisher and everything in this atlas is based on European measurements and wording.
